What is the
Opticians Association of New Mexico?
The Opticians Association of New Mexico is a
non-profit state organization representing the uniformity of
formal education in opticianry.
The Opticians Association of New Mexico’s (OANM) primary goal is
to establish a means of education in the field of opticianry for
state opticians, apprentices, ophthalmic technicians, assistants
and for anyone working in, or aspiring to work in the eye care
field. We also welcome individuals whose state borders New
Mexico and organizations, businesses, etc. throughout the United
States.
OANM’s immediate and ongoing goal is to assist opticians and
related professionals in becoming nationally certified by the
American Board of Opticians and provide educational workshops as
a means for continuing education credits. In addition, we are
exploring how we might assist those individuals who are seeking
certification from the National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLE) or
continuing education credits.
OANM’s long-term goal is to establish standards for an associate
degree in opticianry and assist local community colleges in
providing a medium for earning degrees.
OANM is dedicated to advancing the quality of eye care in the
state of New Mexico and to provide a medium for professional
development of state opticians.
