What is the Opticians Association of New Mexico?

The Opticians Association of New Mexico is a non-profit state organization representing the uniformity of formal education in opticianry.

The Opticians Association of New Mexico’s (OANM) primary goal is to establish a means of education in the field of opticianry for state opticians, apprentices, ophthalmic technicians, assistants and for anyone working in, or aspiring to work in the eye care field. We also welcome individuals whose state borders New Mexico and organizations, businesses, etc. throughout the United States.

OANM’s immediate and ongoing goal is to assist opticians and related professionals in becoming nationally certified by the American Board of Opticians and provide educational workshops as a means for continuing education credits. In addition, we are exploring how we might assist those individuals who are seeking certification from the National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLE) or continuing education credits.

OANM’s long-term goal is to establish standards for an associate degree in opticianry and assist local community colleges in providing a medium for earning degrees.

OANM is dedicated to advancing the quality of eye care in the state of New Mexico and to provide a medium for professional development of state opticians.

Dear 2008 OANM Conference Attendees:

The OANM received notice from Shamir Lens Company regarding the Continuing Education (CE) credits from our conference held on November 8, 2008. The Central Regional Manager had the CE credits mailed out by their central office on November 24, 2008.

If you have received your CE credits from Shamir, you may have noticed the credits are not stamped. OANM contacted Shamir’s Central Regional Manager and they promptly notified the American Board of Opticianry and were granted approval to have the following CE credit accepted without a stamp:

• Basics of Freeform Optics- 1 ABO CE, OANM Conference, Albuquerque NM
• Occupational Lenses- 1 ABO CE, OANM Conference, Albuquerque NM

If you have not received your credit, please check your mail frequently before contacting the OANM. The CE credits were mailed directly to your home or business address, depending on the address you provided at the conference. The list sent to Shamir was generated from the sign in sheet signed after each Shamir sponsored presentation in accordance to ABO guidelines.

We thank you for your cooperation and attendance of our 2008 Annual Conference. On behalf of the OANM we wish you holiday cheer and a Happy New Year!
